Preschool Enrollment for the 2020-21 School Year Opens

The Francis Howell School District is set to begin preschool registration for the 2020-21 school year. Francis Howell has a quality preschool program that provides excellent social and pre-academic experiences for your children. This programming is located in each of three Early Childhood Family Education Centers and two of our elementary sites.

Francis Howell Preschool offers both Half Day and Full Day programming to meet the needs of our community.

  • Curriculum that is aligned with elementary curriculum:
    • Our Math Curriculum builds math skills and vocabulary.
    • Handwriting without Tears program is the same program used in kindergarten to teach writing.
    • Communication Arts curriculum was developed to build on skills needed for kindergarten by examining State Standards and the kindergarten curriculum in the District.
    • Second Step curriculum promotes personal-social development in the classroom setting.
  • Certified Early Childhood Teachers hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in early childhood education.
  • Half Day and Full Day Preschool Calendars are aligned to the District’s calendar.
  • Full Day Intersession is an option for half day or full day preschool families to provide care on days outside the school year calendar.
  • Parent Involvement opportunities are available to volunteer in the classroom and observe how your child interacts and learns.

Our program offerings include:

Minds in Motion: Minds in Motion is an age-specific classroom designed to provide educational experiences for students who turn 3 years old on or after Aug. 1. Students learn foundational skills to prepare them for the multi-age preschool program. Students can enroll at 2 years, 5 months to reserve a spot in the classroom, and begin class at age 2 years, 6 months.

Multi-Age Classrooms: Learning and instruction are individualized as children progress at their own rate and experience success. Children engage in real, meaningful activities at their own level of development. Research shows that, when the classroom is composed of a community of learners with a range of abilities, there are measurable gains in socialization, independence, and interaction with peers.

Off to Kindergarten (O2K): Off to Kindergarten is an age-specific classroom designed for the student who will be age 4 by Aug. 1 and going to kindergarten the following school year. This classroom has a more in-depth emphasis on the literacy component of our existing curriculum. O2K is offered in both our full day and half day preschool programs.

Before and After Care: This program allows half day preschool students to arrive as early as 6:30 AM (for students enrolled in a morning session of preschool) and stay as late as 6:00 PM (for students enrolled in an afternoon session of preschool). This option is offered for one or more days of scheduled attendance.

Intersession Program: Our intersession program is designed to provide care for our students on the days that fall outside of the school calendar.

The Francis Howell Preschool Program is committed to offering children experiences that stimulate a child’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional learning to ensure that all children reach their full potential. Please feel free to call or stop by any Early Childhood Family Education Center if you have questions or would like to tour the facility.
